This is the first shloka of the Ishaa Vaasya Upanishad. It lays emphasis on the idea that God created the Universe and also pervades all of it. He is Omnipresent! He is within the manifested Universe and also beyond.

The Mantra

OM Ishaa Vaasyam Idam Sarvam

Yat Kincha Jagatyaam Jagat Tena

Tyaktena Bhunjeethaa

Maa Grudhah Kasya-svit Dhanam

Literal Translation of the Words

OM – Supreme Parabrahman

Ishaa – God

Vaasyam – Dwell inside or to enclose (Vaas means to Dwell, Vas means to clothe. Both in and out)

Idam – Here

Sarvam – Everything, everywhere

Yat Kincha – Whatever

Jagatyaam – Universe

Jagat – Moving world

Tena – By him

Tyaktena – Let go

Bhunjeethaa – Rejoice or experience the Bliss

Maa – Do not

Grudhah – Hold on or grab

Kasya-svit – Anyone’s

Dhanam - Wealth

Meaning of the Shloka

1. “Om Ishaa Vaasyam Idam Sarvam”
The whole Universe is enclosed or enveloped in God. And also, He dwells or resides in the entire Universe. So, God is in everything and everything is clothed within God. Both are simultaneously true.

2. “Yat Kincha Jagatyaam Jagat Tena”

Whatever is moving (or not moving) in this Universe, is all penetrated and also enclosed by Him. All that is living or non-living, pleasing or otherwise, planets, stars or even our Self, the Atma, is pervaded by him. This perspective can lead you to recognizing His Omnipresence, which may further result in you experiencing Oneness with all.

3. “Tyaktena Bhunjeethaa”

As everything is in Him and He is in everything, you may “let go”, “rejoice” or experience Bliss! Therefore, detach from the worldly things and let go! Appreciating His Omnipresence and realizing Oneness can liberate you, which can be the greatest blessing and protection you can ask for.

4. “Maa Grudhah Kasya-svit Dhanam

Do not grab or hold on to anyone’s wealth. It draws our attention to the virtues of non-stealing, overcoming jealousy and staying away from any greed or deceit. All that is there, belongs to Him only. Do not cling on to anything because all is in Him and everything is He. Hence, just let go and rejoice. Complete let go, detachment, renouncing or pratyahara is the key!

This is where "let go" is described in the Upanishads. We use it in our Meditations! That is “let go” at a higher level. You must let go from the Crown centre. That is, reach Turiya or the Intuitional plane and then, let go! This is analogous to going to the roof top of a multi-storied building and then taking off!

Let go in the gap between OMs, as there is silence and further stillness. So, tune up, fly and let go. The gap is described as amatra (no syllable) in the 12th shloka of Mandukya Upanishad. This is the fourth quarter of AUM also referred as Turiya.

The last stanza in Lord’s Prayer states, “For Thine is the Kingdom, for Thine is the Power, for Thine is the Glory, Forever and ever Amen!” This also suggests not to hold on to anything, as everything is His, and so, let go!

There are many octaves of vibrations. When the first OM is over, next OM is supposed to be at the next octave. That is, starting from vibration of silence to a deeper silence. From that deeper silence, the next octave of OM begins. How far you go, depends on your power and also group power!

You may join our daily online sessions to practice loving kindness meditations, namely, Planetary Peace Meditation or Metta Meditation to fill yourself with and internalise peace, love, forgiveness and radiate these to your family, friends, immediate environment and the entire Mother Earth. In the process you elevate to a higher state of mind and experience stillness. With regular practice you would raise your consciousness beyond mind, to the Intuitional plane or higher. At this point, OM is chanted a few times to further raise your consciousness to higher planes beyond mind and then you are asked to “let go”. This is the time for greater spiritual experience, like, Intuitive intelligence, Atmic intelligence, Illumination and/ or Expansion in various higher planes. When aligned in a larger group and with a purpose, you can establish a connection to loftier and exalted planes due to tremendous power of the group! Also, in a big group there is immense downpour of Spiritual energy which can be channelized efficiently to your family, friends, colleagues, immediate environment, affected areas and the entire Mother Earth. Please utilise this opportunity of unifying with a larger group in meditation by joining these online sessions. This can be a great service to humanity, especially, in these pandemic times.
