As her upcoming film 'Shibpur' nears release, Bengali superstar Swastika Mukherjee has alleged harassment and intimidation by her film's producer Sandeep Sarkar.
Sarkar, who is one of the two producers besides Ajanta Singh Roy under their banner Indo Americana Production, was allegedly sending threatening emails alongwith his associates using morphed images of the actor, which they said would be shared on porn websites. As per the actor's claims, some of the images shared were nudes that have been distorted.
In a seemingly evident case of sexual harrassment, the actor has registered a complaint with the officials at the Golf Green Police Station.
She is also likely to approach the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association, alongwith all the evidence to seek further action.
While clarifying the nature of her association with the producer, the actor mentioned that she had never met the producer while shooting for 'Shibpur'.
Arindam Bhattacharya, the director of the film spoke to a mediaperson about the development and said, "Heard about it. Creative disagreements are bound to happen in any field. That's what happened in this case. I shouldn't make any comments from the outside."
However, sources close to the producers have accused the director of instigating Swastika to file a complaint. Refuting this allegation, the director said, "This is a lie. I don't believe in any negative publicity. And I will encourage an actress like Swastika!? Also, why will an actress suddenly complain without any reason?''
Representing the production company, Shouvik Basu Thakur, the prosecution lawyer told the media, "I came to know about the matter only through the media. My client did nothing of the sort. If necessary, we will talk to the actress. If someone has done anything wrong, my client does not support it. We stand by the actress.''
Co-starring Parambrata Chatterjee, 'Shibpur' is slated to release in cinemas on May 5.
