After a complaint by Malayalam actress-producer Sandra Thomas, the Kerala Police on Friday registered a case against director B Unnikrishnan and producer Anto Joseph, for insulting her in public.

According to Sandra's statement, she decided to take legal action against Unnikrishnan after he allegedly insulted her and sidelined her from the Malayalam film industry.

In the complaint, Sandra mentioned an incident when she gave a statement in front of the Hema Committee regarding working conditions of women in Mollywood, post which she was ostracised by Unnikrishnan, which allegedly affected her career.

Anto Joseph has been named as the second accused in the case.

Unnikrishnan and Joseph are yet to issue their official statements.

Meanwhile, amid the intense scrutiny and controversies surrounding the treatment of women in the Malayalam film industry, actor Unni Mukundan, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release, Marco, resigned from Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) as its treasurer.

Mukundan took to his Instagram handle and penned a heartfelt note announcing his resignation. "I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience. However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health," he wrote.

He also stated that he wishes to focus more on his personal life and health, and hence the decision to quit.

For those unversed, the Malayalam film industry has been witnessing turbulent times ever since the Hema Report was made public in August 2024. It opened a can of worms pertaining to notoriously high number of cases of abuse, sexual harassment and casting couch in the industry.
