Rohit Sharma now holds the record of registering the most T20I wins as Indian captain after the Men in Blue sealed a 3-0 whitewash with a nail-biting win over Afghanistan at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. As a result, he has gone past MS Dhoni, who has 41 victories in the format, with Rohit now on 42 from 55 matches.
It's worth noting that only two other Indian captains have registered T20I victories in double-figures as Virat Kohli has recorded 30 wins in 50 fixtures, while Hardik Pandya has 10 wins in 16 matches under his belt. Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shikhar Dhawan have also captained the Men in Blue, but haven't had an extended tenure.
Rohit Sharma's record-breaking ton helps India prevail double super-over:
It was also a day when Rohit returned to form, having registered back-to-back ducks in the first two T20Is in Mohali and Indore. With four wickets falling quickly on a tricky surface, it seemed like the home side would fold cheaply, paving the way for a historic win for Afghanistan.
Nevertheless, Rohit's acceleration was spot on as he reached his half-century in less than 40 balls and brought up his 5th ton in the format in the 19th over. The visitors put on a spirited display. but could not hold their nerves as the match progressed to 2 super overs. The hosts prevailed as Rohit earned the Player of the Match award.
