Two bodies found in Thane lakes; cops probe death

Thane: In the last two days, two dead bodies were found in separate spots in Thane. A dead body of a 16-year-old was found in Upavan lake on Sunday and on Monday a body of an unknown female was found in Kachrali lake in Thane.

"16-year-old Prathamesh Ganesh Metake's body was found in Upavan lake, near Vartak Nagar area of Thane on Sunday late evening. The deceased was identified as a resident from Metake Chawl in Charai area of Thane," said police official.

Some locals in the area spotted the body after an alert call from the local police. The body was recovered by the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) team of Thane after spotted by locals.

"An accidental death report has been registered in the case has been registered at Vartak Nagar police station. The investigation is on to whether it was an accident or suicide," informed a police official.

While another body of a woman was spotted at Kachrali lake by a passer-by on Monday.

"The dead body of an unknown woman was recovered during the wee hours from Kachrali lake near Ganesh temple at Panchpakhadi area in Thane. It was later handed over to Naupada police station," said RDMC official from Thane.

"The investigation is on to identify the woman's identity who is suspected to be between 35 to 40 years old. An accidental death report has been registerd at Naupada police station," informed police official.
