Mumbai, August 1: The body of the 56-year-old garment businessman, who jumped from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, was recovered from the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, a day after he allegedly took the extreme step.

Tikam Makhija drove to the cable-stayed bridge, parked his car there and jumped into the sea at around 5.30am on Monday.

Subsequently, a joint search operation was undertaken by the police, fire brigade, Navy and Coast Guard. According to the Worli police, a Coast Guard helicopter spotted the body floating near Shivaji Park Chowpatty at around 1pm on Tuesday.

Navy divers recover body

A Navy team then reached the spot by boat and fished out the cadaver with the help of a diver. The kin of the deceased later identified him.

Senior Inspector Ravindra Katkar said that it was an arduous search operation.

The body has been sent for postmortem, after which it will be handed over to the family.

Victim was in depression after road accident

Makhija had slipped into depression after suffering serious head injuries in a road accident last month.

The businessman underwent surgeries but was upset since then. He would tell his family members about ending life. A day before he jumped into the sea, Makhija spoke to a relative and talked about suicide.
