Filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan, who directed the superhit Raja Hindustani back in 1996, recently made a shocking revelation when he claimed that Karisma Kapoor had confided in him during the film's shoot about seeing her grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor, grabbing women by their hair and being abusive with them.
In a recent chat with Lehren Retro, Darshan recalled how both he and Aamir were skeptical about shooting the infamous scene in Raja Hindustani wherein a drunk Aamir was scene pulling Karisma by her hair and being violent.
Aamir had even suggested that he should pull Karisma by her arm instead of her hair, and the director too felt the same since he thought pulling the actress by her hair would be too extreme.
However, it was Karisma who insisted that they go ahead with the scene as planned. Darshan recalled that the actress took him aside and said that she wanted to do the scene.
"She said, ‘I’ve seen my grandfather do it sometimes. Forget his films. In real life.' When she told me that, I went to Aamir and said, ‘No one take this, one take that. Just straight up pull her hair',” Darshan revealed.
He also stated that Karisma was readily on board when they discussed the much-talked-about kissing scene between Aamir and her for the first time on the film's sets.
Raja Hindustani went on to become a hit among the masses, and after all these years, it has achieved a cult status in Hindi cinema.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Karisma will be soon seen in Murder Mubarak, which also stars Vijay Varma and Sara Ali Khan.
