DU FYUP Admission 2025: Delhi University's Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), as per NEP 2020, has seen a reassuring response, with as many as 72% of the eligible students opting to carry forward to the fourth year, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh revealed on Thursday, as per the PTI report. The university is allowing students to opt out of the additional year until the new academic session begins on August 1.
Currently, of over 72,000 students, approximately 20,221 have chosen to opt out, while over 50,000 students are moving on to the fourth year. The fourth year, beginning August 1 in DU colleges, provides an Honours with Research degree that encompasses research, entrepreneurship, and skill-based learning.
The Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) offers multiple exit points:
- Certificate after completing 1 year
- Diploma after completing 2 years
- Bachelor’s Degree after completing 3 years
- Honours with Research Degree after 4 years, with a focus on research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development
Vice Chancellor Singh has called the fourth year a "game changer," highlighting its emphasis on entrepreneurship, skills, and research — a first in DU's undergraduate curriculum. Teachers' associations and education experts, however, are cautious, pointing out possible rises in dropout rates, overburdening of faculty, and insufficient funds for infrastructure development that is needed.
Singh assured that the university is dedicated to filling facility gaps and improving infrastructure in order to accommodate the new program, stating, "If facilities are not available, they will be created. It is in the interest of our students," as reported by news agency PTI.
As the August 1 deadline approaches, Delhi University faces the challenge of bridging these gaps to ensure FYUP lives up to its transformative promise or risk falling short due to logistical and academic shortcomings.
