Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's film Pathaan has been facing a lot of backlash on social media. Ever since the song Besharam Rang from the film was released by the makers, it has been slammed by a section of social media users for for its 'vulgar visuals' and displeasure over the saffron bikini that Deepika Padukone is seen donning in the video.
Several BJP workers, RSS supporters and few others expressed their displeasure and mocked the scenes from the song.
When SRK talked about boycott Bollywood campaigns
An old video of Shah Rukh, discussing such agendas during an interview, is going viral amid Pathaan controversy.
In the viral clip, he said, "Actually, sometimes it is good. Agar picture utni na chale jitna aap samjhte the, toh ek excuse mil jata hai. Yeh excuse hai…social boycott hua tha isliye nahi chali, but dil behlane ko ghalib khayal accha hai ki picture achi thi woh social boycott hua. (If the film doesn’t work, you get an excuse to make your heart happy, so you get the excuse that social boycott happened so which is why it didn’t work)."
He added, "With due respect, kisiko hoga issue, kuch ek comment tha, kuch kisine bana diya, woh log bade khush honge…aur agar khush hai toh woh bhi khush ho…humari wajah se hi khush ho…but iss desh mein, Bharat mein, jitna pyaar mujhe kiya jaata hai, main yeh danke ki chot par bol sakta hu ki bahut kam logon ko kiya gaya hai. Aur woh pyaar ek baat se ya do cheezo se…sahi galat log samjhte hai…I don’t think that has affected me or my film or will ever affect me or my film (Someone will have an issue, someone would make a comment….but in this country, I do know that I have received so much love so I can say with certainty that many haven’t received that kind of love)."
When the anchor of the show asked Shah Rukh, "Aisi hawa toh chali thi par ab that is a thing of the past, so there's no fear?", the actor replied, "To be honest, aisa badbol nahi bol raha par hawa se thodi na hilne wala hu main."
Protests against Pathaan in MP
On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra slammed Deepika Padukone's outfits in Besharam Rang and also the use of the colour 'saffron'.
He called Deepika's outfits objectionable and had warned the makers to "correct them" or they will be forced to mull whether to stall the film's release in the state.
Following this, effigies of Shah Rukh Khan were burnt in Indore by protesters.
Pathaan, starring SRK, Deepika and John Abraham, is set to hit the theatres on January 25, 2023.
