Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A prisoner serving a life sentence at Central jail made good his escape from Hamdia Hospital premises on Thursday morning. The jail inmate identified as Amar aka Guddu,28, was brought to hospital for eye check up by jail constables.
A case has been registered in this connection and raids were being carried out at the possible hideouts, police officials said.
According to reports, resident of slums at Mansarovar in Habibganj area, Amar was sentenced life term in 2017 in a case of POCSO Act registered against him at TT Nagar police station.
He was imprisoned at Bhopal Central Jail. Some days back, he complained to jail officials regarding some ailments in his eyes.
On Thursday morning, he was brought to Hamidia Hospital with some other prisoners for a check up and the prisoners were guarded by around half a dozen jail constables.
Amar was with other prisoners near the outdoor counter at Hamidia Hospital when he somehow managed to take out his hand from the handcuffs. Amar rushed towards the under construction gate towards the Royal Market and fled outside after scaling it.
In-charge Koh-e-Fiza police station Krushna Gopal Shukla said the constables raised an alarm and ran after the convict. They gave chase to the prisoner and even took a lift from commuters in a bid to catch him. However, Amar entered a nearby densely populated area and could not be traced. An FIR has been registered against the prisoner under the relevant sections, Shukla added.
Meanwhile, a massive hunt has been launched to nab the convict. Police teams raided the slums at Habibganj where Amar used to live but he was not found there. Cops have launched a search at bus stands, railway stations and exit routes from Bhopal as the convict may try to flee from the city.
