BHOPAL: After remaining shut for almost two months due to corona-induced lockdown, the markets after the unlocking are again abuzz, thanks to the wedding season. If things continue to remain positive, the traders are likely to compensate for all their losses by the upcoming festive season.
Even as the maximum wedding season has passed, the traders are optimist and believe that the rest of the season till July will help them to make some moolah. Maximum number of marriages are solemnized in April-May and the traders do good business during these months, but due to lockdown, the market was hit hard. †With the unlocking, the market is showing a positive trend and this has cheered the business community.
The traders, however, have demanded the administration to extend the market operational timing till 10.00 pm† as currently they have been permitted to run business till 8.00 pm. The traders claim that 8.00 pm is the peak time for the business and closing the market so early would hit them financially during the ongoing wedding season.

Market looks promising and if this positive trend continues, the traders would be able to compensate for the loss they suffered during the lockdown, said Ajay Dewanani, general secretary, New Market traders association. The wedding season will continue till end July and then the festive season will start, and the market will regain its lost glitter, he added.
Customers still have faith in the offline market as they know that traders are fully vaccinated. Besides, shopping at brick and mortar stores gives shoppers an opportunity to interact with the seller and also bag a good discount, the whole experience is very satisfying, said Dewanani.
Market after the unlocking is showing positive signs. However, its operational timings should be extended till 10:00pm. Currently, it is up to 8:0 pm which is too early to close down the shop. Therefore we are urging the administration to allow traders to keep their outlets open till 10:00pm. Otherwise, after the lockdown, the market looks quite favourable for traders in the current wedding season.Anupam Agrawal , Thok Vyapar Mandal† general secretary
It is good that the market has opened and the traders have resumed their business. Market is also doing fine from a business point of view. Now, the government should ensure the availability of vaccines for the public. It is high time that the government should take prompt decisions to ensure adequate availability of vaccines and oxygen.Raj Kumar Batra, 10 No. traders association president
Marriage garden sees no business
The administration has permitted a maximum of 50 people from the brideís and groomís families for a wedding and so all business is going to the marriage hall and not to the marriage garden. The current wedding season has been totally ruined from a business point of view. Besides, the number of guests should be decided on the basis of the area of the marriage garden and if area is big enough, then permission should be given to invite more guests. Now, we hope that things will improve by Diwali time.Subham Jadon, owner Mayuri Greenwood
