Thane: As many as 40 scrap godowns were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a godown at Gausiya Compound on Shil-Daighar Road on Wednesday afternoon.
No injuries were reported, but one motorbike and a car parked on the premises were severly damaged. A Kalamboli fire official said, “We received a call at around 3.50pm on Wednesday. Total 10 fire tenders from Taloja, Kharghar, Belapur, Vashi and Navi Mumbai were prerssed into service.
The fire began in one of the warehouses, which stored scrap materials, including platics, waste papers and old tyres. The blaze spreaded and engulfed other godowns in the area. An alert resident noticed the flames and informed authorities, who rushed to the spot.

SN Patil, a firemen from Kalamboli fire station, said, “It is difficult to say from which godown the fire could have originated. The cause is yest to be ascertained.”
