Mumbai: A 62-year-old biker died in a road accident on Friday afternoon when he came under the wheels of a BEST bus, which was being steered by its technical staffer near Nirlon society bus-stop in Malad (West).
Bangur Nagar police have arrested the accused staffer, who is in his forties.
The biker, identified as Dominic Joseph, was immediately taken to nearby Siddharth Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. His family has been informed about his death and the body has been sent for post-mortem, said a police official. “In a bid to avoid public assault, the staffer – identified as Sayyed, hid himself somewhere before the police rushed to the accident site,” said senior inspector of Bangur Nagar police station Santosh Bhandare, who further added that Sayyed – who works as a fitter in BEST, was steering the bus from Malwani to Goregaon bus depot. However, the bus was not carrying any passenger. Joseph was crushed under the left side of the bus when he tried to pass through its left.
