Ujjain: Divisional commissioner MB Ojha convened a meeting of collectors and zila pachayat CEOs of Ujjain division on Friday. A proposal to launch a campaign to conserve river Kshipra was presented at the meeting by officials of the department of water conservation.

Taking a lead from Narmada seva yatra, the campaign named ‘Kshipra seva yatra’ will be launched covering the complete distance that the river travels from its point of origin in village Mundlidotru of Indore to the final point, where it falls into river Chambal. Extensive plantation work on its banks and an awareness programme will be run to educate and involve people to keep the river clean.

Ojha has issued directives to concerned departments to prepare a detailed project report for the campaign. The river flows through Dewas, Ujjain and Ratlam district and finally falls into river Chambal covering a distance of 195 km. A total of 425 villages are situated on its banks between Dewas and Ujjain. All these villages will be covered in the campaign.

Other important decisions were also taken in the meeting. Unused pipelines and other equipments purchased during Simhastha-2016 were asked to be distributed equally among districts of Ujjain division. He also instructed officials to preserve infrastructure developed in Ujjain during Simhastha.

Around 11 per cent hand pumps in the division are out of order due to decreasing levels of water this summer season while some are not in working condition due to absence of riser pumps. Statistics show that 6000 out of 46,000 hand pumps are non functional. The department of public health and engineering has been instructed to fix these pumps at earliest.

As per orders of the State government, rationalization of auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM) workers has been issued. The joint director of the health department complained that ANM workers have not confirmed their new appointments and dates of joining. Ojha said these workers should not be given their salaries.

Increasing milk production to complement the agriculture sector was also proposed in the meeting. In the ‘gram uday se bharat uday’ campaign, Ojha asked officials to set up milk cooperatives in villages where required.
Ujjain collector Sanket Bhondve, Dewas collector Ashutosh Awasthi, Shajapur collector Alka Shrivastava, Agar collector DB Singh and CEOs of zila panchayats were present at the meeting.
