Ujjain : District administration, Agriculture, Horticulture and Forest departments jointly organised a symposium at Devrakhedi, Kalidas Udyan and Kaliadeh villages sensitising farmers for stopping erosion in Kshipra river and not using water from Khan river for irrigation of the fields, on Sunday. Farmers were suggested to grow bamboos as third crop.
Collector Kavindra Kiyawat addressed the farmers at the symposium and said that very soon the day will come when Kshipra will engulf the fields on its bank due to the fast pace of erosion. Water from Khan River is hazardous for human health. Crops cultivated by the water from Khan river can cause dangerous effect on human health. National Green Tribunal has declared the Khan River a poisonous one. Hence, the water from Khan River should not be used to irrigate fields to cultivate food grains. Farmers whose farmlands located on the banks of Kshipra can grow bamboos as third crop.
