Ujjain : A group of pushcart vendors staged a dharna in front of the house of School Education Minister Paras Jain, here on Thursday night protesting against the misbeahviour by the traffic police and Ujjain Municipal Corporation employees.
Pushcart vendors from various areas in city like Freeganj, Chhatri Chowk, Patni Bazaar, Sathigate gathered near the house of minister and raised protest. Several busy roads in the city have been regularly witnessing gridlocks as pushcart vendors occupy roads and footpaths. Traffic police took action against vendors and forcefully removed their accessories from the road.
Following complaints, the city police had been clearing pushcarts from roads and footpaths since the last few days. Subsequently, a few vendors staged the demonstration and urged the district administration to allow them to run their business. According to them, the traffic police have been “obstructing them from selling fruits, vegetables and other material on roads. Hundreds of pushcart vendors in the city were being deprived of their livelihood due to the harassment by the authorities they said. Muslim vendors also opened their Roja at front gates of the minister and enjoyed their one time meal in open.
