Ujjain : The first ‘official’ convention of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) Council will be organised on September 4, though the BJP has planned to organise a ‘separate’ oath ceremony on September 3.
Collector and presiding officer Kavindra Kiyawat on Thursday issued a notification with regard to the first convention of the UMC Council. Accordingly, oath will be administered to the newly-elected Mayor and 54 corporators. The proceedings will begin at 10 am on September 4 at the UMC Council Hall. It will be followed by the election of Speaker and members of the Appeal Committee. Formalities like filing of nomination papers and counting of votes will be completed on the same day, said the notification.
Meanwhile, the City BJP has planned to organise a public function on September 3 at the Nazar Ali Mills Compound. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has been invited as the chief guest of the programme. BJP chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan is also likely to grace the occasion. A delegation of the party on Wednesday met the CM and other leaders at Bhopal and gave them the formal invitation. According to spokesman Jaiprakash Joonwal, the party has planned to administer oath to the Mayor Meena Jonwal through CM and preparations have been launched.
