Ujjain : Even as the Ujjain Municipal Corporation officials claim that the garbage is being cleared across the city, in some places solid waste is piling up.
While garbage is being cleared in most residential areas, piles of garbage continue to be lying in major markets and old city areas such as Begumbag, Sarafa Road, ChaubisKhamba temple, Harsiddhi temple, Paandariba and many other areas.
It looks like the residents’ war against overflowing garbage bins around the city is here to stay. While many are happy that there are bins at all, others point to the other issues, from disappearing bins to the indiscriminate dumping of waste along roads. There is fear of an outbreak of diseases.
The UMC should have taken some alternative measure to clean the heaps of garbage piling up on the roads. Satish Tiwari, a shopkeeper, said heaps of garbage and waste material lead to diseases and the foul smell makes it difficult to use the road. The authorities must look into the issue because unhygienic conditions pose a threat to health.
