Ujjain : District consumer forum has penalised a mattress seller of the city for defect in product he sold to the consumer. Consumer Ashok Kumar had purchased a mattress from the Popular Pexine House, located in Freeganj area in year 2006.
The seller had sold the mattress to the consumer for Rs 2500. The mattress was told to given efficient services till 15 years and the seller had even papers of alleged guarantee to the consumer. But within six months the mattress got compressed leading the health effects to the user.
Consumer Ashok took the issue to the seller but was paid no heed, so he brought the issue to the consumer forum, where after long hearings the forum penalised the seller for defect in services provided. Rs 3500 was the penalty ordered by the forum, which included Rs 2500 as the actual cost, Rs 500 as mental harassment compensation and Rs 500 as legal expenditure.
