Ujjain :Congress Corporators on Friday met with Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (CMC) Avinash Lavania and demanded him to recommence the development works which were stopped by Mayor by illegal means.
Leader of Opposition Rajendra Vasishtha led the corporators and met with CMC. They told CMC that Mayor Meena Jonwal had written a letter to Artisan Department to stop development works proposed to be done by municipal heads for 2015-16. Employees of Artisan department followed the order and stopped working on the projects. Vasishtha told that the letter Mayor had written to Artisan department was against the Municipal Corporation Act 1956. Mayor does not have rights to stop the works approved in the budget. After the first convention of the UMC board held in September, PWD committee has not been constituted till now under Section 46.
Corporators Atmaram Malviya, Vijaysingh Darbar, Jafar Ahmed Siddiqui, Sapna Sankhla, Rahim Lala and others took objection over the act of Mayor. Corporators also demanded CMC to deploy additional sanitary workers in each ward to ensure cleanliness on the festival of Deepawali. They also requested to do the maintenance of street lights. Waste containers should be kept in all wards without any discrimination.
