Ujjain : Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Pastor during a sudden visit to the Ramghat took the stock of ongoing conditions on Saturday and a the contractors for practicing laxity in ghat cleaning. Pastor ordered the contractor to put up extra machines and labour and make Ramghat spick and span till Monday.
He was accompanied by the officials of Simhastha Fair Authority and Water Resources Department (WRD) during the visit. The Ujjain Municipal Corporation and WRD are working over the cleaning of Kshipra banks from Friday. The administration was under pressure from recent media reports revealing the poor condition of Kshipra, where the river has became a nullah. The office-bearers of many Akhadas had also expressed anger over the river’s condition and how the authorities are sitting squats.
The officials also met with the ‘Tirth Purohits’ and convened a meeting in the evening over discouraging the dumping of religious waste in the holy river, as it is killing its fauna. The priests were suggested that they will be given baskets for holding the holy items after the Pujan is performed and all of the item will be collected at single place, from where it will be dumped at in the river at specific location. The priest community also gave a nod to the proposal of the official, so as the river can be saved.
Commissioner catches illegal quarrying
Commissioner Pastor during his visit caught 5 persons quarrying at the banks of Kshipra near Bhukhi Mata temple. They were mining sand from the river banks and were arrested by the guards of the officer and were later handed over to the police. The officials of revenue department were called on the spot and reprimanded for their non action in such a prime location. The arrested persons were handed over to the Mahakal police where an FIR under Section 379 and 109 of the IPC was registered against them. They were identified as Rajesh, Munna, Hadur, Himmat and Kamal Choudhary all residents of the nearby areas.
