Ujjain : Around 2000 connections of the BSNL landline phones in the city have been non-functional for almost two weeks, causing inconvenience to subscribers.

Despite the alleged round the clock repair work to restore the services the BSNL was unable to restore landline phones, and broad band services, which remained non-functional for the sixth day Thursday. Even the Police Control Room at Madhav Nagar was not spared by the trouble of BSNL and for the fourth consecutive day the internet facility at many sections including the crime branch was not working. The policemen informed that he had been repeatedly reaching the office of the company for past 3 days and no heed has been paid by them.

None of the BSNL officials seemed to be clear about the progress with each giving a different version. Also claims of restoration of services in certain areas proved wrong. Tall claims of the BSNL to restore the services soon have come under the scanner as once again the public agency has failed to deliver. Officials, however, stated that it was not in their hands as the equipment, cables had suffered extensive damages in the road digging in many areas, and it would take time to repair them.

JTO Hemant Arora at the Dusshera Maidan located office of the BSNL said there was delay in the restoration of services as various cables have to be either replaced or rejoined, besides the equipment has suffered damage due to moisture and heavy rains. The repair work has been further affected owing to a staff crunch.

Sources informed that their city has been divided into seven service zones by the BSNL and each service zone has been allotted two heads of the linemen to repair any faults. There are around 1500 complaints already pending in the Freeganj and Dewas Road service zone of the BSNL.
