Ujjain : A youth who was fleeing after snatching a mangalsutra was caught and thrashed by alert public near the Dewasgate Bus Terminus here on Saturday. He was later handed over to the police.
According to the Dewasgate police, Hukumchand Verma and his wife Uma were boarding a bus to Shajapur at the Dewasgate Bus Terminus, where a youth came and tried to snatch the mangalsutra of Uma, but she caught hold of her jewelry and resisted. Further the youth snatched the cell phone of husband and alighted from the bus in a flash.
The woman immediately raised an alarm, after which other passengers who noticed the incident, chased the youth and managed to catch one of them, identified as Mohsin, son of Yusuf, a resident of Topkhana. The public gave him a beating and handed him over to the police. During interrogation Yusuf said, he does these crimes to fulfill his requirement of drugs, and one of his friend Samir is also involved. The Police have registered a case and are investigating.
