Ujjain : District Collector Kavindra Kiyawat irked over officials of agriculture department over not launching the drive against the sale of substandard seeds. Sowing of Kharif crops have been done in 2.56 lakh hectare area till now. DM chaired the review meeting of agriculture inputs at his office here on Monday.
During the review meeting, Collector expressed anger over agriculture department for showing lackadaisical attitude in taking action against substandard seeds in time. Over half of the area proposed for yielding of Kharif crop has been sown in the district till now. The department has targeted to sow Kharif crop in 4.74 lakh hectare land. District has 4.83 lakh hectare irrigated land. Though, the district has received the sufficient rainfall for the sowing, farmers should be motivated to sow their fields. It was informed in the meeting that there is ample stock of seeds in the district. 1.10 lakh quintals of seed were required for the Kharif season. Soyabean is sown over 95 percent of the land while rest of the five percent will have other crops.
Agriculture department has collected 40 samples of the seeds from the district. Kiyawat ordered the department to take strict action against traders who sell substandard seeds. Reviewing the stock of the fertilizers, it was found that the societies in the district have 37.16 thousand metric ton fertilizer in single lock.
Out of which 23 thousand metric ton fertilizer has been taken by farmers. Collector also issued directives to make cases of milk societies to avail them the benefit of the government scheme. 35 cases of Milk Federations have been prepared. Horticulture department has chosen 200 hectare land for production horticulture crops.
