Ujjain : The administration stopped four child marriages around the district on Tuesday, which on the day was also the occasion of Akshay Tritiya, the hot bed of child marriages.
The marriage of a four 16-year-old girls was prevented following intervention of the team of Women and Child empowerment department who raided the mass marriage ceremony where wedding rituals were going on in full swing at Mahidpur and Khachrod.
The team not only stopped the marriage rituals but also warned the girl’s parents not to get their daughter, married of before legal age otherwise legal action would be taken against them, said US Chouhan, District officer women empowerment. People’s representatives and NGOs have also been made partners in this important campaign for preventing child marriages. The government had ordered officials to make arrangements in their respective areas to ensure that no child marriage takes place in any case.
