Ujjain : A 15-year-old boy, Kalu, of a tourist family was swept away by the turbulent Kshipra waters a few meters downstream at the Ramghat here on Wednesday.
Kalu, son of Shankarlal Ahir was a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan and was a member of tourist group of 50 members, visiting the city. The whole incident occurred in front of the family, as the parents cried for help, the boy got washed away. The group has reached the banks of Kshipra to take a holy dip. Kalu also went down the Ramghat to take a holy dip; unknowingly he went into deep waters and got washed away.
The flow of river had become turbulent after heavy rain fell in the catchment area of the river. This resulted in almost a flash flood. On hearing the cries for help of the victims, locals tried different ways like throwing ropes in the water but of no use. The boys remained in the swollen waters for more than 30 minutes before rescue teams were sent by the district administration and the police. At about 1.30, the rescue teams recovered the body in vicinity of the Ram Ghat. These teams comprising the firemen, the police and local divers were keeping observation at different points downstream. A team of 8 local divers was searching for the body of the boy in the Kshipra.
