Out-of-favour Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan made a surprise entry during a show on ABP news, donning a mask that Bollywood superstar did in his latest release Jawan. Dhawan also repeated a dialogue from Jawan, expressing his confidence in Rohit Sharma-led Team India to lift the World Cup trophy.
Dhawan, who last played for India in December 2022, appeared out of nowhere on the stage, leaving the host confused. When asked by the host who was he, the southpaw asked her and the audience to guess. Moments later, Dhawan uncovered himself, but not before saying the below:
"World Cup toh is bar hum lekar hee jaayenge."
The veteran Indian batter has been one of the consistent batters, especially in the ICC events. The 37-year-old won the golden bat during Team India's 2013 Champions Trophy for his 363 runs in 5 innings, averaging a ridiculous 90.75. Dhawan's 2019 World Cup campaign was cut short due to a finger injury, but struck a match-winning hundred against Australia.
Dhawan no longer remains in the mix due to his patchy form and Shubman Gill performing exceedingly well.
India start their 2023 World Cup campaign on a perfect note:
The Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, got their campaign off to a dream start, beating Australia by 6 wickets. After losing the toss, the Indian spin trio put on a stellar show to restrict the five-time champions to 199.
Later, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul shared a 165-run stand to rescue India from a precarious 2-3 and drove them home.
