Mumbai: Companeroes Sports Club dished out a solid fighting display to clinch a narrow 1-0 win against Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) in an Elite Division match of the MDFA League – 2014-15, played at the Cooperage ground on Wednesday morning.
Enterprising midfielder Joshua Vessaokar with rasping long range effort scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute to help Companeroes snatch a close win and collect the full three points. Later, Companeroes Nigerian recruit Stephen playing his first game was unlucky as his try came back off the upright.
Earlier, Companeroes also missed a golden chance to take a first half lead but Jordan Braganza failed to convert a penalty.
Referee Rahul Gupta showed the red card to KSA’s prolific striker Arihi Uchenna in the 87th minute.
In the second match of the day, G.M. Sports stormed to a fluent 5-2 win against Maharashtra State Police. Consistent goal scorer Michael Idewele and Tushar Poojari scored two goals each and Varin Mehta one for G.M. Sports who enjoyed a 4-1 half-time lead. Mohsin Mohammed and Swapnil Mane scored a goal each for the policemen.
