Mumbai : U-16 fourth seeds Gideon D’Souza and Rajvi Sampat crashed out in the boys and girls quarterfinals, respectively, in the SCS MSSA Inter School Badminton tournament, at the CCI.
Sacred Heart’s D’Souza went down to Devesh Dharmarajan of Thakur Public 19-21, 15-21, while J.B. Petit’s Sampat lost to Samiaa Shah of Fazalani L. Academie Globale, Mazagaon 22-20, 18-21, 14-21 in a thriller, on a day the other seeds were stretched by the underdogs.
Among the favourites who survived scares before progressing to the semi-finals were, girls under-12 third seed Mehek Nayak of Jamnabai Narsee who beat Shachi Jukar of Greenlawns 21-19, 18-21, 21-19 in a nail-biter, girls under-14 third seed Tia Mishra of Hill Spring, boys under-14 third seed Vikyath Bangera of Bunts Sangha, Powai and fourth seed Aditya Desai of Utpal Sanghvi.
Meanwhile, unseeded Kathan Shah of MKVV IV, who shocked fourth seed Aaditya Utchil in the third round, marched into the boys under-12 semi-finals following an exciting 10-21, 22-20, 21-13 win over unseeded Siddharth Bhutia of RSB Arya Vidya Mandir, Juhu.
