Mumbai : Maharashtra’s India No.5 Milika Marathe fought back from set down to subdue Haryana’s giant-killer Sandeepti Singh to bag the girls singles title in the CCI-9th Ramesh Desai memorial National tennis championships, held at CCI courts.
Milika triumphed 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the pulsating final that lasted a little over 2 hours.
The corresponding boys singles title was claimed by second seeded Sandeep VM, of Tamil Nadu, who toppled top seeded Gaurav Kurva of Telangana 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in about two and half an hour’ intense struggle.
However, both the finalists, who paired in the doubles, were beaten in the boys doubles final.
Sandeepti started aggressively and dominated the opening set and was up 4-2 before Milika fought back spiritedly to take four games in a row to take the tie to the wire. The decider too was a touch and go affair before Milika wrapped it up with a clean forhand down the winner.
