Mumbai : Former champions Goa scored an authoritative 3-1 win against West Bengal in a Group-B league match of the 70th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy, conducted by WIFA and played at Nagpur, on Tuesday.
For the Goans, Milagres Gonsalves (54th minute), Beevan D’Mello (66th minute) and Agnelo Colaco (69th minute) scored a goal each while West Bengal reduced the margin of defeat through Narahari Shreshtha ( 90+3rd minute).
Meanwhile, in a opening Group-A league match played on Monday, hosts Maharashtra trounced Jammu & Kashmir by a convincing 3-1 margin. Substitute Shrikant Veramallu struck a brace (61st & 70th) and Raynier Fernandez (84) scored for the hosts, while J&K got one back through Syed Shoaib (64). In the second Group-A encounter, Mizoram snatched a late equaliser to hold Railways 1-1. Railways took the lead through Jagtar Singh (58) before Malsawfela (94) scored Mizoram’s equalizer.
