Mumbai: Hockey Olympian John Mascarenhas breathed his last peacefully on 25th May, 2015, at his Kotachiwadi, Girgaum residence.
He was in his late 70s. After requiem service at St. Theresa Church, Girgaum on 27th May, he was laid to rest at the St. Peter Cemetery, Mahalaxmi.
A few sportsmen were present for the last lap. John leaves behind his wife, two married children and grand children.
The speedy left winger, John who represented India at the 1960 Rome Olympics, was an Alumni of St. Xavier College, Bombay and represented the Bombay Varsity and Bombay teams.
Mascarenhas, who was equally proficient in football, joined Burmah-Shell in the late 50s and served them with distinction.
