Mumbai: It was a double delight for Maharashtra Police as their men and women extended their lease on the Mumbai Mayor’s Cup Volleyball trophy for the second year in the running. In the summit clash which was held here recently, the Maharashtra Police men defeated Naval Dockyard 25-22, 25-23, while their women counterparts Badlapur Girls. In the Hardliners cup, Qamar Sports beat Pillai’s College 2-0.

MHAL selection
The Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) will be conducting trials to select the Mumbai sub-junior boys hockey team for the forthcoming IX Hockey India Sub-Junior National Hockey Championship (B-Division) to be held at Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh from April 26 to May 8. The selection process will be conducted at the MHAL Mahindra Stadium starting from Wednesday, March 27, 2019 onwards at 4.30 pm. Players born on or after 1-1-2003 are eligible to participate in the selection trials. Interested players are requested to attend the selection trials with age proof certificate and playing kits.
WCG hockey
The Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana will be organising their annual 38th Victor D’Mello Memorial Invitational Rink Hockey Tournament, under the auspices of the MHAL, and will be played under floodlights at the Gymkhana’s tennis courts from April 8-12.
The five-a-side tournament will comprise of competition in three categories, men open, women and veteran men. This is a knockout tournament and each match will be played over a short 20-minute duration for women and veterans and 25-minute duration for men.
Defending champions UK United, Companeroes SC, Ave Maria, Sea View SC, Bombay Republicans, Hockey Dadar. Mumbai Customs, Central Railway and Western Railway are some of the teams that will feature in the men’s open category. Eight women and veteran teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
