Jonny Bairstow scored a gritty 140-ball 106 to rescue England on Day Three of the reschedule fifth Test against England at Birmingham and in the process made a unique record.
Bairstow shed his cautious behaviour from Saturday for embracing the aggressive avatar associated with him under England's newly-invented BazBall effect on Sunday.
This was Bairstow's third ton in the last three Tests. He scored a match-winning 136 in the second Test against New Zealand and followed it with 162 in the third Test against Kiwis in the recently concluded Test series, which England won 3-0.
The right-handed batsman now has the most career Test runs (5301) without being dismissed run out. He surpassed Kapil Dev (5248).
Earlier, resuming Day 3 at 84/5, Bairstow and Ben Stokes anchored the innings with some fantastic shots. The duo stitched a 50-run partnership and thrashed Indian bowlers at every corner of the ground.
