Social activist Trupti Desai and her supporters were detained after they tried to stop the convoy of the Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, who was on his way to the Swargate bus depot on Thursday.

After the detention by Pune Police, Desai told the media, "We were raising our voices. We wanted to meet Yogesh Kadam because he is the Home Minister, and we wanted to ask him why these incidents are increasing repeatedly..."

She was also seen blaming the city police and noted, "Pune Police Ka Hi Failure Hai, Pune Police Kuch Kam Ki HI Nahi Hai (Pune Police is a total failure, Pune Police is of no use at all.)

Desai, before her detention, was speaking to the media and said, "It has been 48 hours since the rape incident happened at Swargate bus stand. What’s the government doing? The culprit has not been arrested yet. Women travel in buses with the belief that these are government buses, but if such incidents happen, then the Home Ministry and Police are lacking. They should take quick action..."

'What is the Women's Commission doing?'

She also slammed the Women's Commission and said, "The Women's Commission doesn't need to tell us that women should not trust strangers. Women don't trust strangers. What is the Women's Commission doing? (Chairperson) Rupali Chakankar is from Pune, but if the women of Pune are not safe, then what is she doing?"

For the uninitiated, Chakankar, issuing an appeal for girls not to talk to strangers, had said that the 'victim engaged with the accused, who was a stranger, for an extended period and shared information.'

"If we look at the CCTV footage of the case, the victim was seen speaking to the accused for an extended time. The accused was wearing a mask and was a stranger; still, she shared information like where she was going, who was with her, her address, and then the accused discovered that she was alone," she had added.

Meanwhile, the Pune Police have launched a manhunt for a man accused of raping a 26-year-old woman near a parked bus in Swargate. The accused, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade, is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him, officials said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smarthana Patil, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the victim, a working woman, was waiting for a bus to return home.
