Pune: A four-seater aircraft being used for civil aviation training crashed on Tuesday in Pune district, injuring the trainee pilot, police said. The crash happened near Rui village in Indapur taluka, hours after its take-off from the Baramati-based Carver Aviation academy, police said, adding that a technical snag may have caused it. A police official said the Cessna 172S Skyhawk (VT-RDX) aircraft, belonged to the aviation academy, crashed on its nose in an open field near Rui village this afternoon.
The academy is yet to come up with its version about the accident. The trainee pilot, Sidharth Titus, who was flying solo, has sustained a fracture on his right hand, the official said. After the incident, locals rushed Titus to a nearby clinic where he was given medical aid, before being shifted to, a hospital in Baramati. His condition is stated to be stable now. DrVinod Shingade, who treated Titus, said his right hand was fractured.
According to sources, Titus is a student at the academy and is pursuing his Commercial Pilot License (CPL) course. He was authorised to fly solo, they said. “The pilot has been with the academy for three years and has around 130 hours of flying experience,” said a senior, police officer.
