Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil on Friday held a meeting at his residence concerning the traffic situation in Pune's Kothrud. He directed the officials to work on three principles — inspection, action and execution.

Patil told the officials to increase the number of CCTV cameras and introduce an AI-based challan system to manage traffic congestion effectively. He also discussed appointing 50 traffic wardens in the area and figuring out 50 hotspots for traffic jams.

During the meeting, Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner Himmat Jadhav, PMC Road Department’s Aniruddha Pawaskar, Anti-Encroachment Department’s Sandeep Khalate, BJP Pune City General Secretary Puneet Joshi, and others were present.

Patil assured that meetings will be held regularly to address traffic congestion issues in Kothrud, Baner and Balewadi.

Last week, Patil said in the Assembly that the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), exercising its regulatory powers, has cancelled the recognition of 16 B.Ed. colleges in the state.

Of the 16 colleges whose recognition has been cancelled, nine are closed and students have not been admitted there. It is reported that the admission capacity of the other seven colleges is 500.

Patil said that the recognition of these seven colleges has been cancelled due to the non-submission of the evaluation report to the NCTE on time.

He added that, as per the New Education Policy, a four-year B.Ed. curriculum — that is, the Integrated Teacher Training Program — has been implemented.
