The Pune City Police have successfully traced and returned 456 lost or stolen mobile phones to their original owners using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Portal. The remarkable operation has provided relief to many residents who had lost their mobile phones.

According to the police officials, the Pune City Police Commissionerate had introduced the ‘Lost and Found’ portal on its official website to enable residents to report lost or misplaced mobile phones.

Once a complaint is registered, citizens receive an online Property Missing Certificate.  Using this certificate and their Aadhaar card, they can file a report on the CEIR portal, which has been designed to track lost mobile phones.

2300 complaints in recent months

Over the past few months, 2,300 complaints regarding missing or stolen mobiles were registered in Pune city. A dedicated team from Pune Police’s Crime Branch, Cyber Police Station, and IT Department was formed to analyse the data from the CEIR portal and to investigate the cases.

Accordingly, 456 mobile phones were traced and recovered. On Friday, these recovered mobile phones were handed over to their rightful owners by the police at the Shivajinagar-based Police Headquarters. The mobile phone owners expressed immense gratitude and appreciation for the police’s efforts after receiving their lost devices, acknowledging their dedication
