Pune: A Marathi actor was arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 15 lakh from another actor in return for withdrawing a molestation case against the latter, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, complainant Subhash Yadav, an aspiring actor, had worked in a film with the arrested accused and the latter had filed a sexual harassment case against him after the film got released. “Another accused Ram Jagdale, on the pretext of working out a settlement between the two, called Yadav to his office in September last year.
The arrested actor, an Anti-Terrorism Squad sub inspector Amol Tekale and one of Yadav’s relative was present,” he said. “They made Yadav record a video in which he apologised for the act. The arrested woman demanded Rs 15 lakh in return for not making the recording viral,” he said.
Tekale also took Rs 1 lakh from Yadav, the official said. However, another woman actor allegedly leaked the recording following which Yadav approached Sahakarnagar police station on April 10 and filed a complaint of extortion against the two women actors, ATS PSI Tekale and Jagdale.
