“The disabled should get the maximum benefit of the schemes implemented for disabled persons. Hence, a camp should be organised where they can get information about all the government schemes under one roof,” directed District Collector Dilip Swami to the heads of various government departments. He was addressing a review meeting of the Divyang Kalyan committee on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department Jayashree Sonkawade, District Social Welfare Officer S B Chavan, ZP Deputy CEO Rajendra Desale, Municipal Corporation Social Welfare Deputy Commissioner Lakichand Chavan, A K Shaikh, Dr. Mahesh Laddha, Yogesh Sonawane, Chandrashekhar Wadle, and other officers were present.

Swami further said that stalls of various government departments should be established in the camp where the beneficiaries can be provided information about various government schemes run by the concerned departments. Similarly, facilities for the registration of the physically handicapped certificates, health check-ups, law and order-related facilities should be made available by the concerned departments. The disabled should be informed about the camp in the far remote villages through the Gram Sevaks.

The camps should be organised at the taluka-level and district level by the end of March. The venue should be selected after a survey and it should be convenient for the physically handicapped persons. The departments like police, social welfare, skill development and self-employment, district apex bank, schools, project directors, and others should take the initiative to implement the project effectively, Swami said.

Deputy District Collector Sangeeta Rathod said that the funds provided for disabled persons under the Zila Parishad’s Social Welfare Department should be spent within the given time frame.
