Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has informed on Tuesday that out of 650 people stuck in Kashmir, 50 have voluntarily decided to stay back and 600 have reached their homes.
“In the first two days, we were in contact with everyone and planned accordingly. Some people decided to stay there because of the good arrangements made by the local Kashmiris and the security they received,” Dudi said.
"Due to the efforts of the administration, most people have reached their homes safely, while those who are still there are being continuously monitored," he added.
Pune district administration had launched a helpline and brought residents of the district back from Kashmir after the death of two Pune residents in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Pahalgam Terror Attack
The terror attack in Pahalgam occurred on April 22 at the popular Baisaran meadow, where terrorists targeted tourists, killing 25 Indian nationals from across the country and one Nepalese citizen, leaving several others injured.
Acting on the attack, the Indian government suspended the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, downgraded bilateral ties, and shut down the Attari checkpost as it hit back at Islamabad over the brazen attack.
Of the deceased, six hailed from Maharashtra — three from Dombivli in Thane district, two from Pune city, and one from Panvel in Navi Mumbai.
Santosh Jagdale and Kaustubh Ganbote from Pune were killed by terrorists in the attack.
