Mumbai: A man staged a dramatic protest by climbing a tree in front of Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai's Nariman Point, waving a tricolour in his hand. The distressed individual was reportedly refusing to get down as authorities requested him to do so. The incident, which was caught on video, quickly went viral, showing fire brigade officials and police attempting to rescue him.
Rescue Operation Underway
As per reports, the man climbed the tree, with a tricolour in his hand and staged a protest atop. Fire brigade officials and cops immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation to bring the man down to safety. Efforts are underway to bring the man down safely using ladders and protective nets.
Man Jumps Off Mantralaya Building In Protest
This incident comes just weeks after a similar event on February 25, when another individual jumped from Mantralaya (Maharashtra’s administrative headquarters) and landed on the safety net installed at the building. Authorities later discovered that the man was carrying materials related to a property dispute in Nashik. He also had documents with the revolutionary slogan 'Inquilab Zindabad' written on them.
Security concerns have been growing, leading to the recent installation of facial recognition technology at Mantralaya to monitor visitors more effectively. This follows an earlier incident where then-Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal and three other legislators jumped from the third floor in protest over a tribal classification dispute. They too landed on the safety net and were rescued without injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the latest tree-climbing protest outside Vidhan Bhavan, as efforts continue to bring the individual down safely.
