In a shocking incident, on Thursday, a dismembered body of a 4-year-old girl was found in Thane’s Shilphata area.

According to Indian Express, the 4-year-old was reported missing from her home in Raigad since Tuesday. The police have sent the body for post-mortem. While the report is still awaited, the police suspect that the girl may have been sexually assaulted before she was killed.

The cops have said that the girl lived with her parents, who are migrant labourers, in a makeshift house. The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl was playing outside her house, after which she went missing. A police officer told the leading daily, “We found her body in three pieces. Parts of the body also bore cigarette burn marks. It is possible that she was raped before she was killed.”

The police have filed a case of abduction and murder against unknown persons. The cops are currently investigating the matter and checking CCTV footage of the area where the body was found.
