Maharashtra's Environment and Climate Minister Pankaja Munde has clarified her recent statement regarding the formation of a new political party, asserting that her remarks were misinterpreted by the media.
During a public meeting in Nashik on Sunday, Munde stated, "If I consolidate all the followers of Gopinath Munde, a new party can be formed." The comment sparked speculation and political discussions, prompting her to issue a clarification. However, she emphasised that she is recognized as a leader not merely because she is Gopinath Munde's daughter, but because she has embraced and upheld his ideology and principles.
Following the controversy, Pankaja Munde explained her statement, referencing a speech by Dr. Girase in Nashik. According to her, Dr. Girase remarked that the admirers of Gopinath Munde were so numerous that if counted, they could form a political party. In response, Munde had said, "Yes, a party has already been formed, and many of those who loved Gopinath Munde are already part of this party (BJP)." She asserted that her words were taken out of context and given a different interpretation.
Meanwhile, senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal weighed in on the issue, stating that anyone can form a separate political party. However, he questioned whether basing a party on a single community would lead to success. "There have been several instances where different factions have formed their own parties. Some have succeeded, while others haven’t. While Pankaja Munde has made such a statement, I don’t think she will immediately form a new party. Instead, it should be interpreted as an acknowledgment of the vast support for the late Gopinath Munde," Bhujbal remarked.
Pankaja Munde’s comments have stirred discussions within political circles, but her clarification suggests that she remains committed to her current political affiliations while acknowledging the widespread support for her late father’s legacy.
