Mumbai : Western Railway (WR) commuters had to face huge inconvenience after a signal failure at Santacruz station during peak office hours on Friday evening. Following this, services were affected wherein trains towards Virar up side were running 30 minutes behind schedule.
The commuters said they had to wait for nearly 30-45 minutes for trains leading to huge crowds and chaos at the stations. “I had left from work early thinking that I will reach home early and relax with my family. However, when I reached Santacruz station at 6.40pm, there was a huge rush and there was no train scheduled on the indicator. The train towards Virar, where I stay, came 30 minutes late and was extremely sluggish,” said Amit Sharma, a PR professional.
When asked, WR PRO said there was a flickering in the power supply leading to signal failure at Santacruz station. “The incident happened at 6.30pm wherein there was a problem with the power supply of the traffic signals and then the signal failed at Santacruz station. However, the train services were restored by 6.50pm and though the trains were delayed by 10 minutes, they continued to run normally by 8.30pm,” he added.
