Mumbai : The Mumbai train blasts case needs to be fast-tracked, demanded Jaiprakash Pashuram Sawant, father of Parag Sawant who was declared dead on 7 July 2015 after being in coma for nine  long years due to the injuries he sustained in the train blasts in 2006.

After a special court on Wednesday pronounced 12 out of the 13 accused guilty, Sawant  feels it is just the beginning of a prolonged battle.

“The problem is that the verdict will definitely be challenged in the High Court and then the Supreme Court and it will take years before finally the case reaches a conclusion. It shouldn’t another nine years for justice to prevail. Instead, the case should be heard on a fast track basis so that it reaches its right conclusion sooner.”

Recounting the horrifying day which changed the lives of members in the Sawant family, he said: “Parag would leave late from office but that dreadful day he left early as he had to take his wife to the doctor who was seven months pregnant.  For the past nine years, we have been running in and out of the hospital.”

The grieving father argued that if the decision to hand Kasab the death penalty could be reached in three years, why had it taken so long for the courts to reach a conclusion in the Mumbai blasts case.
