Navi Mumbai: NMMC sees over 60 mm of rainfall till evening, tree falling reported across city

For the third consecutive day, heavy rainfall lashed Navi Mumbai as waterlogging and tree falls were reported in many areas. A few chronic spots saw waterlogging, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents.

For the third consecutive day, the subway of Khandeshwar railway station witnessed waterlogging. Commuters faced a lot of trouble while reaching the platforms. They had to wade through the water to reach the platforms. A similar situation was seen at Mansarovar railway station. Commuters took to Twitter to express their anger against the authority. Despite the pumps functioning properly, they were not able to flush out water. Commuters said that high-power pumps should have been installed.

A total of five tree falling incidents were reported till 5 pm under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) jurisdiction. At least three vehicles including a car were damaged after a tree fell on Gulmohar Society at sector 21 in Nerul. Similarly, Koparkhairane ward witnessed three tree falling incidents in sectors 8, 12 and 14. One tree falling incident was reported from sector 8 in Belapur. The disaster cell of NMMC received a fire call after a fire broke out due to leakage in cooking gas cylinder in sector 1 in Koparkhairane. The 36-year-old woman was cooking when the fire broke out. She was admitted to civic hospital in Vashi.

Meanwhile, the NMMC area received an average of 60.41 mm of rainfall from Wednesday 5.30 pm. The maximum rainfall of 77.9 mm was reported in the Nerul ward.

In addition, partial damage to three Kaccha houses was reported from Panvel Taluka. Meanwhile, the road from Panvel Palaspe to Kudawe village has been restored for traffic.

The Morbe dam that supplies water to the city has received a total of 629 mm of rainfall till Wednesday morning. The level of the dam also increased to 70.96 meters. In the last three days, more than a meter rise in the level of the dam.
