Navi Mumbai: Man held for raping, blackmailing Vashi woman

The Vashi police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly raping a 41-year-old woman and blackmailing her with the objectional photos on Wednesday. The man was arrested in Gujarat.

The accused identified as Jignesh Badiyadra, a native of Bharuch district in Gujarat had visited Vashi to meet the victim woman, he befriended her on social media platform.

According to the police, the accused Badiyadra, had befriended the survivor on social media a few months ago and also started talking to her on phone.

Police said that Badiyadra had come to Vashi around two months ago to meet the woman. “When he had come to meet her, finding her alone at home he forced himself on her. He also took her objectionable photographs on his phone,” said a police official from Vashi police station.

“Later, going back to his hometown he started demanding Rs 50,000 from the survivor. He also threatened her that if she did not give him the money soon, he would make her photos viral,” added the official.

The woman finally approached the police on May 30 and lodged a complaint. A case was registered against him under sections 376, 354, 385, 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “We then sent a team to Gujarat on June 8 and with the technical help, we arrested him there on June 9,” said the official.
