A 35-year-old man from Vashi was allegedly killed by some of his friends by stabbing with an iron rod at his residence on Thursday night. The police have detained three persons based on suspicion.
Police said that the victim identified as Jacob Christopher Vay who was a history-sheeter and arrested a couple of times for his alleged involvement in different crimes. He was residing with his mother in a rented house in Juhu Gaon in Vashi.
The incident took place on Thursday night when his mother had gone to his relative and he was alone at home.
Ramesh Chavan, senior inspector of Vashi police station said, “Jacob’s mother had gone to his daughter’s home on Thursday night, and he was alone at home. As he was alone at home, he invited some of his friends over a drink and to discuss a business deal.” He added that they suspect that their discussion might have gone wrong as they were under the influence of alcohol and the crime took place.
The initial investigation revealed that there was a scuffle among them and his friends assaulted him and then stabbed him with an iron rod on his back. After committing the crime, they fled from there,” Chavan said.
Some of his neighbours later found Jacob lying in the house and took him to a hospital. He was declared dead by the doctors after some time. A constable who was passing by that area learned about the incident and called the police station.
“We have registered the case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Based on suspicion we have detained three people, but have not arrested them due to a lack of concrete evidence. We hope to detect the case very soon,” Chavan said.
