Mumbai: An 80-year-old bedridden patient’s newly appointed male nurse absconded with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 17.35 lakh from the employer’s Andheri West residence on Sunday.

About The Case

The DN Nagar police registered an FIR against the accused Ashwin Kumar Sukhveer Singh, 29, under section 306 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on February 23.

According to the police, the complainant, MA Kadam, 72, resides in Dawood Baugh arca with her 80-year-old bed-ridden husband. Their elder son lives on Vira Desai Road, while their younger son resides in America. Kadam’s husband is paralysed and had been under the care of a male nurse named Balusahi for a year.

On February 20, Balusahi informed the family that he needed to return to his village and recommended another male nurse, Ashwin Kumar Sukhveer Singh, as his replacement. Singh began working with the couple the same day. On February 23, between 2 pm and 3 pm, Singh suddenly broke into tears and told Kadam that his mother had passed away. Without waiting for permission, he packed his bag and left in a hurry, raising Kadam's suspicions.

When she later checked the cupboard, she discovered that cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 17.35 lakh were missing. “Our team is tracking the accused via his mobile number. Kadam had hired him based on a recommendation from Balusahi, who left for his village on February 20. Investigations are underway to determine if both nurses collaborated in this crime,” said a police officer.
